This is my fourth year teaching, and I am honored to be at Hernando High.  I am a graduate of Southaven High School and have spent most of my life in DeSoto County. I believe I am exactly where I am supposed to be and would not trade this profession for the world. I am an active member of Life Fellowship Church in Southaven and volunteer regularly to help those less fortunate. In addition to my volunteer work, I enjoy running, working out, and reading. I am currently working towards my Masters in Special Education and will complete my coursework in the fall of 2017.  I look forward to many wonderful years of teaching. 


The roles and responsibilities of a tutorial and an itinerant teacher can often involve numerous components. As a tutorial teacher, I am responsible for teaching in a classroom setting. I prepare grammar, vocabulary, reading comprehension, writing and math review lessons in an effort to assist my students' understanding. I assess understanding of material weekly to ensure concepts are being retained. Tutorial is commonly referred to as Learning Lab, Resource, Compensatory Writing, etc., but it all falls under Tutorial Services when referring to a student's IEP. This is a credited course and students are expected to perform with the same enthusiasm and interest they would in their general education classrooms. In addition to instructional time, the tutorial classroom setting allows me to review the individual needs of each student. Extra time during the block is spent working on homework, make-up work, and missing assignments the students may have. During my itinerant time, I go into specific English IV and College Prep Math classrooms to assist where needed. The needs of my students dictate where I am at any point in my day so it is critical I remain flexible.
