Bio

Education

My name is Melinda Austin.  I graduated from Ole Miss in May of 2007.  I have a Bachelor's Degree in Liberal Arts in areas of Business, English, and History.  I have Praxis endorsements in Special Education, K-12 and Mathematics, 7-12.  I have recently added areas of endorsements in Business, English, and History.

Experience

This is my 15th year teaching.  I decided to teach Regular Education after spending 7 years in Special Education.  I decided to go into education for my daughter's sake, and wanted to be able to help her as well as other students who struggled like she did.  I bring strategies that I used with her to the classroom.  I am a 3rd generation teacher as well as a product of Hernando schools.

I live on a farm outside of Hernando.  I have been married for 27 years to my husband, Damon.  I have 3 kids:Tyler-26 who currently is teaching English in China, Jake-22 who works for the railroad,  and Bree-20 who works at FedEx saving up money to go back to college.  I have a mother who retired after teaching 33 years.  I have a sister, brother, and sister-in-law who also  teach in DeSoto County.
